Live Playback & Sequencer · The Full Picture
When a band wants to sound bigger on stage — without losing what makes them sound like themselves — there are two paths. Sometimes one is right. Sometimes the other. Often, the combination.
This page covers both: stem split (working from existing recordings) and custom sequencer (building from scratch). Same goal — a fuller, more confident sound on stage. Different routes to get there.
Stem Split — from an existing recording
When you already love the original recording — the drums, the strings, the texture — and you simply want to perform with it on stage, stem split is the path. The original mix is separated into its layers: vocals removed (or kept as a guide), drums isolated, instruments grouped — ready to be played live alongside your band.
Best for: covers of well-known songs where the arrangement is iconic, tribute performances, situations where the band wants to stay faithful to a specific recording.
What you receive: separated stems (WAV), a stable playback session, click track and cues.
Custom Sequencer — built from scratch
You’re standing on stage tomorrow. The band sounds thin. The audience can’t feel what you feel about this song.
A custom sequencer fixes that — programmed and orchestrated from scratch, tailored to your band and stage setup. Not a template. Not a stock library. A genuine fit for your arrangement.
If your reference already has strings or orchestra, those layers can be recreated with natural MIDI. If not, the orchestration can be built from zero to thicken the band — and, when needed, continue to a score for a real orchestra or live string section.
Best for: original songs, custom arrangements, performances that need a specific feel that doesn’t exist in any recording yet.
What you receive: a stage-ready playback session, all programmed layers (drums, bass, keys, synth, loops, optional orchestration), click track, score PDF and MusicXML on request.
Why custom sequencing, when AI stem splitters exist?
AI stem splitters separate what’s already there. They’re useful when you want to perform along with an existing recording, exactly as recorded.
Custom sequencing is for what doesn’t exist yet — or what shouldn’t:
· A different intro to set the mood your show needs.
· A medley that flows between songs, not just cuts them together.
· Syncopation, dynamics, transitions that match your band’s feel.
· Stage-ready stems built around your actual lineup, not the original recording.
Stem splitters give you a copy of someone else’s arrangement. Custom sequencing gives you your own.
Which path is right?
Stem split: when the original recording is the soul of the performance.
Custom sequencer: when the arrangement needs to be yours from the ground up.
Combination: some songs from stems, others built custom — one cohesive playback session for the entire setlist.
The right answer becomes clear once we look at the setlist together. A short brief is usually enough.
